I always wear a helmet, even if it's just to do a very short journey. I am very passionate about riding with one and if anyone turns up without a helmet I refuse to go with them until they have one. A while ago a lad arrived at the start of a ride........
without a helmet and I insisted he put one of mine on, he had a very simple fall and banged his head, knocking him out for a few minutes, he was very shaken and taken to hospital by ambulance where he stayed in for treatment for concussion for a few days. The Doctor said the helmet could have saved his life, on closer inspection of the helmet was a gonner, it had split and had a chunk missing from it, it's hard to say what the outcome would have been without a helmet but the lad recovered to be as good as he was prior to the bump. If you want any more information on why helmets should be worn go to riderdown where there is a story of Scott Shepherd and some information to help people suffering with the after effects of accidents. Whitakers Signs are going to be helping the cause shortly, watch this space for some good things happening!
